On 24 April 2026, local fishers and stakeholders participated in a workshop in Chonburi, Thailand, to discuss the implementation of Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMAs). The initiative seeks to empower local communities to manage coastal waters and mitigate environmental impacts within Udom Bay.

Facilitated by Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) and supported by the SCS SAP Project, the workshop aimed to institutionalize local expertise into conservation policy as part of a broader mandate to reduce habitat degradation through local and national regulatory reforms.

The SCS SAP Project assist countries in meeting the targets of the approved Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for the marine and coastal environment of the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand through implementation of the National Action Plans in support of the SAP, and strengthening regional co-ordination for South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand SAP implementation
