The SCS SAP Project is co-organizing a crucial learning exchange and study tour with the Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) from 16-18 September 2025 in Jakarta, Indonesia. This collaborative event, held in conjunction with the annual PEMSEA Network of Local Governments (PNLG) meeting, marks a significant step towards strengthening coastal and marine resource management in the East Asian Seas region.
The PNLG, founded in 2006, is instrumental in implementing the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA) through the PEMSEA framework, significantly driving sustainable development and environmental conservation of East Asia's marine and coastal resources.
The gathering aims to enhance the capacity of SCS SAP local and site managers in integrated coastal management (ICM) approaches, fostering vital networking opportunities among local government officials and habitat and thematic area managers.
Facilitating these connections through this joint event will enable the sharing of best practices in sustainable coastal development, crucial for addressing the environmental challenges facing the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand, and other coastal and marine ecosystems within the scope of PEMSEA’s activities.
This collaboration between SCS SAP and PEMSEA is vital for regional integration, supporting long-term sustainability efforts. It provides a platform for discussions on joint initiatives, updates on SCS SAP progress, and showcases site-level achievements.
Ultimately, this exchange of knowledge and experience is indispensable for the successful implementation of the SCS SAP and the continuity of its impact beyond the project’s lifespan, contributing directly to a more sustainable and inclusive blue economy and the overall health of the East Asian Seas.
