Seagrass

The SCS SAP Project is proud to be a collaborating partner in the First Asian Regional Dialogue on Seagrass and Dugong Conservation, taking place in Bangkok from 20-21 February 2025. The SCS-SAP Project Seagrass Regional Working Group will showcase recent achievements from the Seagrass Ecosystem Service Project and the Strategic Action Programme for the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand.

This regional dialogue brings together key experts, policymakers, and conservation practitioners to discuss innovative approaches, identify gaps, and develop actionable strategies for the protection and restoration of seagrass ecosystems and associated dugong populations. The SCS SAP Project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and executed by United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), aims to assist countries in meeting targets for the conservation, management, and sustainable use of 25,900 ha of seagrass in the region.

The project's seagrass component integrates conservation efforts into broader environmental strategies, including the establishment of a dedicated seagrass regional working group. Through collaborative initiatives and knowledge sharing, the SCS SAP Project is contributing to the long-term resilience of these vital ecosystems in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand.
