The SCS SAP Steering Committee’s role is to provide managerial and governance advice to the project, and to guide the Project Coordination Unit (PCU), in the implementation and monitoring of the overall regional project. The SCS SAP Steering Committee also provides a regional forum for reviewing and resolving national concerns, reviewing and approving annual work plans and budgets, and provides a regional forum for stakeholder participation. The objectives of this Second Steering Committee Meeting included: 1) discuss project progress and implementation at regional and national levels, 2) discuss habitats and land-based pollution achievements in implementing the SAP during 2008 – 2021, 3) discuss and adopt regional and national activities for implementation under Components 2 and 3, and 4) discuss and adopt the revised workplan and budget. 

As to the plans for 2024 and onwards, the Steering Committee agreed on the revised work plan and budget including the no cost extension until December 2026, expediting the project execution following the approved revised work plan for 2024 and beyond, initiating the amendment process of the PCA with countries, initiating the amendment and signing process of the Letter of Agreement (LOA) between UNEP and UNOPS, finalizing TORs for recruitment process, organization regional activities, and enhancing project's visibility.
