Tha Chana, Surat Thani (31 March 2026) – The Marine and Coastal Resources Office 4 hosted a landmark event showing that the future of our oceans is in local hands. The "2026 Shellfish Festival" at Tha Chana celebrated the official launch of new Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMAs) and community-led conservation zones.
Highlights of the day:
· Mr. Ukkrit Satapoomin, Deputy Director General of the DMCR, presided over the opening and presented community subsidies to empower local coastal groups.
· We officially marked the ribbon-cutting for the new Shellfish Conservation Zones, establishing community-led rules to protect biodiversity.
· The event featured special insights from experts like Ajarn Sakanan Plathong and showcased sustainable maritime operations in collaboration with private sector including Charoen Pokphand (CP).
· From intense shellfish-catching competitions and cooking contests to youth art under the theme "My Sea," the spirit of Tha Chana was on full display!
· Famous TV shows like "Kin Tam Amphoe Chan" joined us to share the local wisdom and flavors of Tha Chana with the world.
